Congratulations Ms Caldwell

A hat tip to my friend and Forward boss Erin Caldwell.

She’s landed a job at Edelman, where she’ll no doubt wow them.

For young Aussie PR’s not familiar with Edelman: they’re the big league, check their website and try not to be impressed.

Erin’s obviously scored this job on the back of the traditional means - work experience and scholarly success; two areas that every Young PR must focus on.

But, would this be the first instance that the use of blogging/social media has led to a Young PR getting a great job offer?

That’s a good question, Paull. We have all heard of at least one prominent PR blogger getting hired in a prominent PR position with a prominent PR agency. That’s practically been done to death! But a young PR pro? Social media? You’ve got a point. I’d be interested in finding out if Foward’s Erin is, indeed, the first fresh hire because of social media.

Since I’m proud of my ability to talent spot (see other posts on PR Studies and Forward for context), can I take a Forward thread back to your blog? I’m glad I made you think, but don’t want you to ‘do as I say’. If you like what you do, you’re respected and rewarded for it, and if it offers development prospects - then what more could you want?

Having praised Stephen Davies and Erin Caldwell, may I propose Paull Young as the other ‘outstanding young online communicator’ in the world?

    Richard,

Thank you very much for your kind comment, I truly appreciate it.

I think that my inner traditionalist is a little irked by the fact that a job-for-life is no longer a feasible prospect.

I feel that if you make a commitment to something/someone it should stick - rather than simply being used as a stepping stone to different things.
